York Basketball Downs Bulldogs To Win Tournament

The York Institute Dragons completed a sweep of the Sergeant York Christmas Invitational Championships, as they defeated Clay County by a final score of 66-59.

The two teams battled back-and-forth, and York took a 33-30 lead into halftime.

The third quarter is where York stretched out the lead, as they out-scored Clay 19-10 to take a 12-point lead into the final frame. The Bulldogs won the final frame 19-14, but it wasn’t enough, as the Dragons earned the win by a final score of 66-59.

Roger Meadows led the Dragons in scoring with 21 points, and Nicholas Smith added 13. Jonathan Heddings and Riley Cooper each scored 11, and Noah Smith scored 10 points.

Jake Ashlock led Clay with 20 points, and Grant Strong scored 17 points. Mason Sharp rounded out the trio of double-figure scorers with 13.

York will be back in action at Cookeville on Jan. 7, while Clay will take the court again on the same day against Jackson County.
