Lady Bulldogs Overcome Early Deficit, Down Maplewood

The Clay County Lady Bulldogs fell behind early against Maplewood on Saturday, but they used a huge second-half effort to complete the comeback and win by a final score of 50-48.

It didn’t get off to the best start for Clay, as they trailed Maplewood 20-9 at the end of the first quarter. The struggles extended into the second frame, as they were out-scored 14-8 and went into halftime down 34-17.

The Lady Bulldogs came out rejuvenated in the third quarter however, as they cut the deficit down to 40-31 heading into the fourth. The comeback was completed there, as Clay out-scored Maplewood 19-8 to take home a 50-48 win over a very solid Maplewood team.

Katie Arms played a major role in the comeback, as she scored a game-high 27 points. Rachel Copass added 12 points of her own in the win.

Clay will be back in action on Jan. 7 when they travel to Gainesboro to take on Jackson County.
