Tuesday Night Boys Hoops Recap: Slatten’s 44 Leads White Co Over Cumberland Co

White County 86, Cumberland County 56

A 20-2 start to the third quarter and a 28-8 advantage overall for the frame helped White County earn a dominant 86-56 win over Cumberland County on Tuesday.

Senior Grant Slatten scored a school-record 44 points on an efficient 18/21 shooting in the effort to lead all scorers. Kade Clark added eight points for the Warriors, who trailed by 10 at the end of the first quarter before getting settled in on offense.

White County will have another long layoff, as they are off until next Monday when they host Sequatchie County.

Clay County 79, Macon County 34

Grant Strong’s double-double and an impressive defensive second-quarter equaled a win for the Bulldogs by a 79-34 count over the Tigers.

Leading 21-11, the Bulldogs held Macon County to a mere three points in the second quarter to take control of the game.

Strong finished with a double-double of 35 points and 10 rebounds on 13/19 shooting from the floor. John Hamilton added nine points, and Eli Smith, Jeff Spivey and Gunnar Silk each scored eight points.

Livingston Academy 77, Pickett County 73

Matthew Sells followed up his 47-point outing over the weekend with 28 more points in Tuesday’s 77-73 win over Pickett County.

After taking a six-point lead after the first quarter, the Wildcats out-scored Pickett 21-13 in the second frame to hold a 14-point lead at halftime. The Bobcats chipped away at the lead in the third and fourth quarters, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the loss.

Nick Choate added 11 points for the Wildcats. Zach Amonett led the Bobcats with 27 points, and Hunter Wattenbarger added 15 points.

Livingston will host Upperman on Friday, while Pickett County will play their next game at Cookeville on the same day.
