Pickett County Baseball Deeper Than Previous Seasons

Pickett County, maybe even more than other 1A schools, struggles on the diamond to field a team four plus times a week. Especially on the mound when it comes to finding capable pitching behind say an ace and possibly solid number 2 option.

This year however, that is not the case.

Head coach Jamie Cravens says he had five or six guys he trusts on the rubber at any given moment.

He went on to say that in a normal year he tries to avoid scheduling more than three or four games a week, because it can wear on his starting nine, and a short staffed rotation.

This season he is wishing he had scheduled more games, because he feels his pitching has not gotten the experience he would love for them to have.

Now they have just a few weeks to get the details ironed out, the pitching depth deeper experience, as the Bobcats have already locked up the district runner-up spot thanks to a sweep of Clay County earlier in the week.

Coach Cravens spoke about the pitching depth, as well as what it has been like playing so many games at home, including 4 double-headers in Byrdstown, in our conversation Wednesday.
