Paul Steps Up, Leads First Team After Averaging 30 Points A Game

White County Senior Tanner Paul produced two of the best games of his career last week.

First against Cumberland County on Tuesday, Paul posted a double-double of 34 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Warriors over the Jets by a final score of 85-72.

Paul followed that up with a 26-point outing on the road in a win over Rhea County, pushing White County’s district record to 2-0.

He also led the First Bank First Team for the week ending on Jan. 23.

First Bank First Team

Reagan Hurst (Upperman): Hurst led the Lady Bees to two dominant district victories last week over Macon County and Livingston Academy. She scored a game-high 30 points against the Tigerettes, and Hurst led all scorers again against the Wildcats with 17 points.

C.J. Taylor (Warren County): Taylor scored 13 points in a win over Rhea County, but his big performance came in a road win over Cookeville on Friday. Taylor scored a game-high 31 points in the 63-57 win.

Katie Arms (Clay County): Arms averaged 24 points a game last week for the Lady Bulldogs, as they won both of their games against Trousdale County and Monterey. She scored a game-high 25 points on Tuesday against Trousdale, and followed it up with a game-high 23 points against the Wildcats.

Nic Smith (York Institute): Smith is playing some of the best ball of the year in York’s recent games, as he led all scorers with 24 points in a 71-53 win over Watertown. He added 19 points in a 62-56 win over DeKalb County.

Mattie Buck (Stone Memorial): Buck scored nine points against Cookeville on Tuesday, but played one of her best games of the year on Friday against Brentwood Academy. She scored 19 points and dished six assists in the 47-45 Lady Panther victory.

Zach Amonett (Pickett County): Amonett continued his torrid scoring pace with three excellent games against Clarkrange, Trousdale County and Whitwell. Amonett averaged 22.7 points a game over those three contests, with his best game coming against the Buffaloes when he had 26 points.
