Warren Co. Overcomes Turnovers, Defeats DeKalb Co.

Warren County started the Matt Turner era off with a win Friday night in McMinville, as the Pioneers defeated DeKalb County 35-21.

The Warren County defense forced seven turnovers, and two of those were returned for touchdowns. Lacedrick Cox returned a fumble 55 yards to pay dirt in the second quarter, while Eli Buchanan capped off the night with a 70-yard pick-six with 17 seconds to play. In total, the Warren County defense picked off six passes.

The Pioneers had their own struggles, as they turned the ball over on four fumbles in the first half. It didn’t come back to hurt them however, and they found themselves up 21-0 at the break.

DeKalb County fought back late in the fourth. The Tigers scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second half and tied the game at 21 with 3:08 to play.

Senior quarterback CJ Taylor didn’t let his team down however, and scampered into the end zone on a 36-yard touchdown run with a little over a minute to play in regulation to put the Pioneers up for good.
