Dragon Football Holds On Late For Win Over Cannon Co.

The York Institute Dragons (3-7) are heading to the playoffs after a gutsy, 15-14 win over Cannon County on Friday.

In a defensive struggled, it was Cannon County who struck first on a 32-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter for an 8-0 lead.

York countered on its next drive with a six-yard touchdown run from Thomas Miller, tying the game at eight.

The game remained tied until the fourth quarter when York took a 15-8 lead on a 30-yard touchdown run.

With less than a minute remaining in the game, Cannon County cut the lead down to 15-14 on a one-yard touchdown run, but they failed on the two-point conversion. This gave York the win by a final score of 15-14.

Zack Gibson led the way on the ground for the Dragons with 17 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Ben Cooper contributed 11 carries for 47 yards.

Thomas Miller added 37 yards and a score on 10 carries.

Quarterback Dalton Barger finished the night 2/8 passing for 22 yards and he carried the ball 10 times for 40 yards.

The Dragons will be in the playoffs next week, as they will hit the road to take on Loudon at 7 P.M.
