The Monterey Wildcats (10-0) overcame an early 14 point deficit and a final play scare, against Gordonsville, to cap off an undefeated regular season. The Wildcats won 28-21 Friday night in Smith County.

Senior quarterback Jordan Key accounted for two of the four Wildcat touchdowns. Key rushed 12 times for 63 yards and the two scores on the ground. Key completed 5/8 passes for 85 yards.

Running back Mason Bowman carried the ball nine times for 58 yards and two touchdowns on the ground as well.

Antony Soberanis racked up 16 carried for 79 yards to lead Monterey in rushing.

Chandler Bowden caught three of Key’s passes for 77 yards.

Monterey will host a playoff game next week against Whitwell, the defending Class 1A state champions at 7 P.M. in Monterey.
