Summer Rewind: UCSN Featured: Clay Co. Basketball’s Eli Smith

As the summer rolls on, UCSN takes a back at the 2021-22 school year and sport seasons. In this series, we find our most viewed video from each school this year, and reflect on the time of the school sports calendar from when the video was first posted.

Today, we rewind on the Clay County High School Bulldogs basketball team. Specifically, then-senior Eli Smith.

When this video was posted, the Bulldogs’ basketball season had come to a close about two weeks prior. With a 24-7 record that included an unbeated district record, their season would go onto end at the Class 1A State Semifinals.

FROM APRIL 1st, 2022:

Last month, the Clay County Bulldogs reached the TSSAA 2022 Basketball state tournament. While their championship run came up short, the Bulldogs’ season added to Clay County High School’s history books.

In the postseason, the Bulldogs earned their fourth straight district championship and sixth region championship in eight years, finishing their season in the state semi-finals.

Now that the basketball season is fully wrapped, UCSN talked with one of the seniors from this year’s Bulldogs’ basketball team. In this feature, Eli Smith tells us about how he experienced the season, how he hopes this motivates future teams, what he’ll take with him moving forward, and more.
