Strong’s 30-Point Outings Lead First Team

Clay County Junior Grant Strong has the Bulldogs in prime position through their first 10 games with an 8-2 record.

After scoring 30 points in a tough loss to Goodpasture last Wednesday, Strong followed it up with a 38-point outing to lead his team over Livingston Academy on the road on Saturday.

For the season, he’s averaging 34.6 points per game and is well on his way to a potential District MVP season.

He also led the First Bank First Team for the Week of Jan. 28.

First Bank First Team

Tessa Miller (Stone Memorial): Miller led the Lady Panthers to three wins in the Maryville Christmas Tournament. She scored 21 points against Alcoa, 24 points against Grainger, and 17 points against Maryville to win the Tournament.

Torie Brooks (Upperman): Brooks was on fire in the Lady Bees’ 89-30 win over North Jackson. She knocked down 11 threes to score a game-high 37 points in the victory.

Matthew Sells (Livingston Academy): Sells’ scoring ability was on display all last week, as he started by scoring 32 points against CPA on Monday. He followed that up with 16 points against Ravenwood, and 33 points against Center Hill. He ended his week with 22 points against Clay County.

Zach Boyd (Stone Memorial): Boyd put together a terrific game against Jefferson County to lead the Panthers to their second consecutive win of the week. He scored 25 points to lead all scorers.

Alex Rush (Upperman): Rush played a big role in all three of Upperman’s wins last week. He led all scorers with 24 points in the Bees’ 60-46 win over Central Magnet, and he added 12 points later that day against Pisgah (AL). Rush scored 24 points again in the team’s win over Chattanooga Christian.

Nia Powers (White County): Powers played one of her best games of the season on Wednesday when she scored 22 points to lead the Warriorettes over Choctowhatchee. Power also scored 12 points in a win over Brookwood.

Haylee Johnson (York Institute): Johnson led the Dragonettes to a big district win over DeKalb County on Saturday, as she led all scorers with 20 points.
