Lady Bees Face York Institute In Region Tournament

The Upperman Lady Bees will take on the York Institute Dragonettes in the Region 4AA Semifinals tonight, a rematch of the same matchup from Feb. 21.

In that game, the Dragonettes stayed step-for-step with the Lady Bees up until the last five minutes of the game. Upperman out-scored York 21-9 in the fourth to take home the 15-point win and advance to the District Championship.

Haylee Johnson led the Dragonettes with 12 points in that game, and they also got 11 from Gabby Beaty. As it showed last matchup, they will need that and more from those two in order to win. Johnson returned to from with 29 points against Cumberland County in their first region matchup, a showing that should give the team confidence heading into this game.

One player that has really been playing well for Upperman as of late is Aiyana Levy. She had 16 points in the District Tournament win over York, and she used her smart movement without the ball to get to the rim for some easy baskets. Reagan Hurst and Torie Brooks will be important as well, and they combined for 37 points in their first-round win over Bledsoe County.

The main key for York will be taking advantage of their opportunities. They had multiple chances in the Feb. 21 meeting to potentially build a lead, but the Upperman defense prevented them from doing so. If they can knock down crucial shots and earn multiple stops, they can take control of this game.

It tips off at the Eblen Center on Tennessee Tech’s campus tonight at 6 P.M.
