Lady Panthers Take On White Co, Trip To Region Championship At Stake

The White County Warriorettes and the Stone Memorial Lady Panthers will meet each other for the fourth meeting this season tonight when they play for a spot in the Region Championship.

Both teams narrowly advanced past the first round, as White County defeated McMinn County 57-56 at home. Stone, meanwhile, took down East Hamilton on the road by a final score of 62-60.

The Lady Panthers won the two regular season meetings by an average margin of 33.5 points per game, but it was the Warriorettes who knocked them off in the District Tournament en route to the Championship game.

While they trailed by double-digits at multiple points, White County used excellent three-point shooting to come back and tie the game at the buzzer. The Warriorettes went on to win the game by a final score of 77-72.

This game carries higher stakes for both teams, as it serves as the final elimination game for the Region Tournament. A win, and you’re guaranteed to be moving on to Sectionals. A loss, and it’s on to the offseason.

White County Head Coach Michael Dodgen has stated on multiple occasions that the key for his team against Stone is to limit their big runs and answer them with one of their own, and that’ll once again be the main ingredient for a win in this game.

They also need a big start on offense. Against McMinn County, the Warriorettes made only one shot from the field in the first quarter, and failed to make a three-point shot in the first half. A slow start in this game likely means the end of the season.

For Stone, it’ll be all about relying on the weapons that have brought them to this point. Tessa Miller and Emma Capps will be huge, but Mattie Buck, Keaton Freitag and Annah Goss will also have to knock down open shots to suppress any White County run.

It all will go down in Sparta tonight, with tip-off coming at 7:30 P.M.
