DeKalb Co Set To Host Spring Hill For First Round Of Playoffs

Last week, the DeKalb County Tigers had their hearts broken over the sudden end of their 2020 campaign.

That all changed when the county school board gave them permission to run some contact tracing and as a result of it, the Tigers were cleared to play their home playoff game against Spring Hill.

The Raiders are sitting at 3-7 on the season, due in large part to winning three of their last four wins. It is worth pointing out that they were beneficiaries of a Covid win against Lawrence County last week.

Before they took down Maplewood 35-0 for their first win of the season, Spring Hill averaged six points a game on offense in games where they actually took the field, and two Covid losses were sprinkled in as well.

They’re averaging about 23 points a game in the last three games they’ve played, with the last one being a 21-14 loss at the hands of Marshall County on Oct. 16.

The Tigers have also been off since the 16th, a game that saw them defeat Macon County by a final score of 24-20. They were given a Covid loss to Cumberland County in the final week of the season, but after running some contact tracing, they were cleared to host this game.

Before that, the Macon County win was the fifth straight win for DeKalb County and it also gave them their first Region Championship in the program’s 58-year history.

This is the first meeting between the two teams and it all kicks off at 7 P.M. in Smithville.
