Week 11 Roundup: Regular Season Ends; Eight Area Teams Set for Playoff Action

The 2021 High School Football regular season officially ended Friday, with a full slate of games statewide, many with serious playoff implications. Eight teams from the Upper Cumberland had already clinched playoff spots entering Week 11, but several had their actual positions determined during last night’s action.

The biggest game involving an Upper Cumberland team happened in Gordonsville, as the Clay County Bulldogs looked to complete an undefeated regular season and win the Region 4-1A Championship. It was not meant to be, however, as Gordonsville took a 14-0 halftime lead, and held off the Bulldogs in the second half for a 21-14 win. Despite the loss, Clay County (9-1) will still host a first round playoff game next Friday against Sale Creek (5-5).

Elsewhere, Mason Bowman ran for 190 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter, as Monterey routed Wartburg, 68-0. Bowman, a junior, also returned an interception for a touchdown in the opening quarter, as the Wildcats (6-4) built a 40-0 lead after one. Bowman rushed for over 1,750 yards in the regular season.

DeKalb County (6-4) escaped Crossville with a 21-20 win over Stone Memorial (6-4) in overtime. The Panthers missed an extra point which would have tied the game in the extra frame.
