Tuesday Night UC Hoops: Clay Co. & Pickett Co. Square Off in Top 5 Doubleheader

The Clay County and Pickett County high school basketball teams have been waiting patiently for the opportunity to face one another on the basketball court. After two postponements due to weather, the District 7-1A rivals will finally hit the floor tonight in a pair of games featuring teams ranked in the top five in the State, according to the Associated Press rankings.

On the girls’ side, Pickett County is ranked #2 in Class 1A, with a 16-3 overall record. The Lady Bobcats are a perfect 5-0 in the district, and have won seven games in a row. Clay County, meanwhile, is ranked #3, with a 13-3 worksheet. The Lady Bulldogs are 4-1 in district play, and have won four straight, and seven of their last eight.

The Pickett County Bobcats are the top-ranked team in the State, according to the AP, with an overall record of 17-3. Pickett County is unbeaten in the district at 5-0, and have won eight games in a row. Clay County is the defending Class 1A State Champion and currently ranked #3 in the State. The Bulldogs are 11-4 overall and like the Bobcats, undefeated in district play at 5-0. Clay County has won three in a row and four of their last five.
