McWilliams, Lady Jets Duo Honored With District Awards

Three members of the Cumberland County Lady Jets were honored on Wednesday, as Head Coach Tyler McWilliams and Sophomores Emery Baragona and Abby Houston each earned different district awards.

McWilliams was named the District Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Jets to a 16-10 record overall and a 7-0 mark in district play in his first season as a head coach. After starting the season 2-6, the Lady Jets finished the season by going 14-4 in their final 18 games.

Baragona was named the District 7AA Most Valuable Player after leading the team in scoring and assists. Among some of her best games were double-doubles against David Crockett (12 points, 10 assists) and Chattanooga Christian (11 points, 11 assists). The sophomore point guard also scored a game-high 20 points against DeKalb County in the Sonic Shootout.

Abby Houston was named to the All-District 7AA Team after winning a district MVP award of her own last season. One of her standout performances also came against David Crockett, where she scored 21 points on the strength of seven three-pointers. She was also named to the Heritage High School Basketball Christmas Tournament All-Tournament Team.
