Friday Night Lights Football Recap

Jackson County 43, Red Boiling Springs 0

The Jackson County Blue Devils improved to 3-1 on the season with a 43-0 road victory over Red Boiling Springs, Friday night.

Senior quarterback Eli Burris threw two touchdown passes on the night. One of those touchdowns went to Justin Davis and the other went to Jacob Calvin.

Wid Robins also found the endzone on the ground while teammate Will Flanagan rand for two touchdowns himself. Jake Garrison also threw w touchdown to Calvin on the night as well. Cole Christian found pay dirt with a touchdown run of his own.

Jackson County did all of their damage on the scoreboard in the first half. Next Friday night the Blue Devils jump back into region play, on the road, against East Robertson.

 

Watertown 21, DeKalb County 14

The DeKalb County Tigers fall to 1-3 on the season as they were shut out in the second half as they saw an eight point lead slip away to Watertown.

Nathaniel Crook scored the first points of the night for the Tigers with a six yard touchdown run straight up the middle of the defense.

On a second and 19 from their own 10-yard line senior quarterback Axel Aldion connected with Desmond Nokes on a 90 yard touchdown strike to take a 14-6 lead.

Neither team would score in the third but Watertown would tack on two fourth quarter touchdowns to edge out the Tigers. In a game that DeKalb County seemed to be in control of for the majority of the game Watertown found success with their outside run game to steal the victory.

Next week the Tigers go on the road against Grundy County.

 

Clay County 46, Cumberland County 20 

Cumberland County jumped out to an early 7-0 lead against Clay County in Celina. However, the Bulldogs rattled off 46 unanswered points to pull away from the Jets.

Clay County’s Alec Kerr would scored five total touchdowns on the night on only six carries. Kerr also returned a punt 47-yards to the house for a touchdown as well. Clay County’s Carson Sharp finished the night with 15 touches for 167 yards and two scores.

Cumberland County’s Christian Filler would find the endzone twice for the Jets. Filler finished the night with six carries and 103 yards to go along with his two touchdowns.

Next week Clay County (3-1) will square off with region for Gordonsville in Smith County. Cumberland County will look for the first win of the season on the road as well against Macon County.

 

Livingston Academy 21, Upperman 14

Livingston Academy forced five turnovers, four of which were interceptions, to take down Upperman 21-14, Friday night, in Overton County.

In a game that was virtually even in every meaningful statistical category, from total yards, first downs to time of possession it was the turnovers that made the difference. Ty Dutchess and Thomas Ensor were each picked off twice by Livingston Academy defenders.

LA’s Caleb Robinson broke the zero-zero tie midway through the second quarter with a four-yard touchdown run the extra point attempt was no good. Dutchess would score on a 24-yard scamper with just under two minutes to play in the first half.

Robinson would open up the second half with another touchdown run this time from three yards out. LA would convert a successful two-point conversion to gain a 14-7 lead early in the third. Upperman’s Jyron McClellan would tie the game up at 14 with a two-yard touchdown run with 10 minutes to play in the fourth quarter.

Robinson would score his third and final touchdown of the contest from 10-yards out halfway through the fourth quarter. The Wildcats defense proved game as they were able to hold Upperman out of the endzone for the rest of the game.

Upperman (2-2) will host Cannon County next week in Baxter while Livingston (3-1) will host Stone Memorial.

Eagleville 51, Pickett County 0 

The Pickett County football team traveled to Eagleville, Friday night, and were handed a 51-0 loss.

Dylan Anderson finished the night with 64-yards on the ground and seven tackles. Hunter Vick added in 23-yards rushing, 16-yards in kick returns, and five tackles.

The Bobcats (1-3) will travel to Monterey to take on the undefeated Wildcats.

 

Monterey 50, Harriman 18

Mason Bowman lit up the scoreboard, and Harriman, for the second week in a row. Bowman accounted for, seven Wildcat touchdowns in their blowout win.

Bowman scored four total touchdowns on the night, with one being a 70 kickoff return for a touchdown. Anthony Soberians score a non-offensive touchdown as he returned an interception to the endzone.

The Wildcats defense also forced two fumbles to go along with the interception. Monterey (2-0) will host Pickett County  next Friday night.

 

Warren County 40, Lawrence County 3

Warren County was clicking on all cylinders Friday night as the Lawrence County Wildcats came to Nunley Stadium to face the red hot Pioneers who improved to 4-0 with a 40-3 victory.

Like teams before the Lawrence County didn’t have any answers. Warren Counties offense couldn’t be stopped, and the Pioneers defense continued to fly around and make plays as they had two interceptions.

Next week the Pioneers have a tough test on the road as they face Blackman in Murfreesboro.

Cookeville 56, White County 33

The Cavaliers won a back-and-forth battle over White County on Friday by a final score of 56-33 to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Both teams combined for just under 1,000 yards of total offense, with Warriors’ Quarterback Malaki Dowell putting up 298 rushing yards and four touchdowns to keep the game close deep into the fourth.

After the Warriors trimmed the once 21-point lead down to two, Cookeville rattled off 21 unanswered points to close the game and earn their third win of the season.

The Cavaliers will head to Murfreesboro next week to take on Oakland, while White County (1-2) will hit the road to play Walker Valley.

Grace Christian (Knoxville) 35, York 0

The third quarter proved to be the downfall for the York Institute Dragons, as they fell to Grace Christian Academy 35-0.

Trailing 14-0 at halftime, GCA used 21 points in the third frame to cruise to the finish line.

Dalton Barger led the way on the ground with 42 yards on six carries, while Seth Helbig added 23 yards on six of his own. The Dragons didn’t complete any of their eight passing attempts.

York’s (1-2) next contest will be next Friday when they travel to Carthage to take on Smith County.
