Freshman Laney Wiley Paces Stone Memorial XC’s State Finish

Sometimes leadership can come from the veteran of a group; sometimes it can come from a young Lion… or in this case, a Panther.

Stone Memorial freshman runner Laney Wiley ran the course at the TSSAA State Cross Country Championship at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville in 22:40.45, placing her 77th among 235 competitors in Thursday’s competition, Wiley’s run helped lead her Stone Memorial Lady Panther team to a 26th place finish among schools competing at State.

As at team, Stone Memorial finished with a cumulative time of 2:14:37.29, an average of 26:55.46 per runner. Other Lady Panther runners included:

Junior Haley Suggs, 23:13.44 (102nd Place)
Senior Natalie Stone, 25:38.67 (177th Place)
Sophomore Emily Morley, 30:41.28 (213th Place)
Junior Adionna Duncan, 32:23.45 (219th Place)

On the boys’ side, Stone sophomore Trenton Duncan placed 109th out of the field of 251, with an overall time of 19:05.27.

Cumberland County Places 25th in Boys’ State; Freshman Orstrander in at #84
The Cumberland County boys’ team placed 25th in the field of 31 schools at the Class A-AA State Cross Country Championship at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville on Friday. The Jets finished with a cumulative time of 1:43:05.43, for an average of 20:37.09. Among individual competitors, freshman Zachariah Ostrander finished with a time of 18:42.11, good enough for 84th place in the field. Junior Tyler Carroll was next on the team with a time of 18:50.00, which placed him 94th among individuals.
