Former Upperman Bee & Current Tennessee Vol Will Mabrey on SEC Championship, NCAA Tournament, & Upperman’s State Title

Last Sunday, the Tennessee Vols Baseball team won their first SEC Tournament since 1995 to add to their achievement of 2022 regular season South Eastern Conference Champions. Tonight, the Vols take the next step in the postseason as they host the regional round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.  The Vols first opponent is the Alabama State Hornets, and first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm on SEC Network.

As the Vols prepare for a run they hope ends in the College World Series, UCSN took the time to speak with one Vol Baseball player with a special Upper Cumberland connection.

Will Mabrey – junior pitcher for the Volunteers – is a former Upperman High School Bee, in fact the first Bee to sign to an SEC Program. One day before Mabrey became an SEC Champion with the Vols, his alma mater – Upperman High School – defeated the Covington Chargers to win the Div I Class 3A TSSAA Baseball State Championship.

In this snippet from the UC Fanatic podcast with Jake Wallman and Joseph Staton, hear from Will about how proud he is of the Bees for their state championship win. Mabrey also walks through how he ended up at UTK, what his growth has been like, and what it’s like to be a part of this team. He tells us how much fun the Vols have and how focused they are heading into today’s game – and more.
