Late Scores Lift York Over Jackson Co.

York Institute rushed for 405 yards in a 26-14 victory over the Jackson County Blue Devils on Friday night in Gainesboro, Tennessee.

Senior Thomas Miller led the way rushing with 165 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. Junior Ben Cooper added 150 yards and a score of his own, while junior Zack Gibson narrowly missed the 100-yard mark with 8 carries for 96 yards.

After a scoreless first quarter, both teams scored touchdowns in the second. York denied a two-point conversion try by Jackson County, while the Blue Devils blocked York’s extra point midway through the second quarter. The teams went to the locker room in a 6-6 tie.

The Blue Devils held a 14-12 lead going into the fourth quarter, when Cooper capped off a nine-play, 58-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown run to the Dragons a 20-14 lead. The game didn’t become more than a one-possession game until Gibson found the endzone on a 35-yard run with 2:39 to play in the fourth.
