Bobcats Look To Rebound Against Eagleville

The Pickett County Bobcats (1-2) are coming off of a 42-18 loss to Gordonsville, and will look to right the ship against Eagleville this Friday.

In a game that saw the return of running back Parker Gore, Head Coach Ray Reagan said it’s a big boost to your offense when you return a starter in the backfield like he did.

“It’s huge, most of our offense runs through him,” Reagan said. “Whether he touches the ball or not, he’s important because most of the teams that have seen him play are looking for him.”

Important certainly matches what Gore means to the team, as he put up 216 yards of total offense that included 141 receiving yards and 75 rushing yards.

Quarterback Luke Smith was another bright spot against Gordonsville, as he threw for 299 yards. Reagan said he likes what he’s seen out of Smith, and that he has made encouraging progress from last season.

“He’s grown leaps and bounds since last year,” Reagan said. “At the end of last year, he started (playing at a high level), and this year, he’s picked up where he left off…we knew we (could throw more) if we needed too. He’s done an excellent job.”

When it comes to his matchup with Eagleville this week, Reagan knows he will have to limit big plays on offense and says that it will start with the players in the trenches.

“It’s going to start with my front-line,” Reagan said. “If the defensive line can stop up the holes and penetrate the offensive line, we’ll be fine. That’s where it all starts, on offense and on defense. My big boys are going to have to do their job.”

The Bobcats and Eagles will do battle in Pickett County at 7 P.M. on Friday.
