Warrior Football Downs York In Jamestown

The White County Warriors (4-2) marched into Jamestown and used a 19-point fourth quarter to defeat the York Institute Dragons (2-4) by a final score of 26-13.

White County opened the scoring in the second quarter when Quarterback Sedryk Leftwich found Nathan McCallis from 10 yards out to put the Warriors up 7-0.

The score remained that way all the way into the 4:49 mark of the third quarter when York Quarterback Jonah Durham threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Thaddeus Thoman to tie the game at seven. York took the lead on Zack Gibson’s two-yard run near the end of the third quarters, as the Dragons took a 13-7 lead in the final frame.

White County hit pay dirt when Leftwich launched the ball 52 yards downfield to Will Cheeks, who walked untouched into the endzone to tie the game.

Both teams traded short drives, before the Warriors finally broke the tie with just under nine seconds remaining in regulation on Jayden Richmond’s five-yard touchdown run. Leftwich added a 30-yard pick-six to run the score to its final mark at 26-13.

For the game, Leftwich completed 14 of his 24 pass attempts for 128 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also added a team-high 69 yards on the ground on eight carries.

Durham finished 6-19 passing for 95 yards, one touchdown and an interception. The leading rusher was Nathaniel Caste, who put up 40 yards on 11 carries.

The Warriors have their bye week next week, while York will take on Upperman at home.
