Upperman Takes Softball Opener Against Lady Wildcats

Upperman’s girls softball team beat Monterey in the season opener 6 to 4, in Monterey Monday afternoon.

The Lady Bess drew first blood in the top of the first inning with one run. In the third inning Upperman tacked on two more runs as they held a 3-0 lead.

Monterey jumped on the board with one run in the the bottom of the fourth inning. Each team batted in three runs a piece in the fifth inning, before two scoreless innings to finish the game.

Upperman’s Pride knocked in two RBI’s on the afternoon and a homerun. Jennings, Colson, and Sweeney all batted in one run each.

Serenity Nolan smacked in two RBI’s for the Lady Wildcats. Anna Hudson and Molly Sue Sparks drove in one run each as well.

McElhaney earned the win for Upperman and Jennings registered her first save of the season.

Sparks takes the loss for the Lady Wildcats.

Monterey will play again at Clay County at 5:30 on Tuesday. The Lady Bees’ win host Smith County at 4:30 for their home opener in Baxter.
