Quarantine & Answer: Blue Devils Baseball Juan Clariday

Social Distancing is a phrase that will forever be apart of our vocabulary as we move forward. We are going to do a series of questions and answers with coaches across UC Sports Nation and how they cope with this unique time, not only in America but in the World.

Our first coach in the series is Juan Clariday of Jackson County. Clariday coaches the baseball team for the Blue Devils.

Question:

What does a typical day in quarantine look like for you?

Answer:

Last week was our spring break. So I went to the ball field a couple times and mowed. I visited mom and dad. They are elderly so I went to visit them a little bit. I’m a Special Education teacher so I had to go get my stuff from school to work from home. Teaches are sending out assignments through Google Classroom and I have to be in compliance with that. I’ve set me up a home office here so I can get my work done.

Question:

Have you watched a good movie lately?

Answer:

I watched Miracle the story of the USA Hockey team in 1980, one of the greatest sporting events in my lifetime.

Question:

Are you watching any good TV shows currently?

Answer:

I’m watching my normal TV shows I usually watch. I watch NCIS. Friday’s are pretty good days to watch too. I watch Hawaii Five-O, the Blacklist, Blue Bloods, and MacGyver.

Question:

Haven you done anything interesting with your family?

Answer:

My brother and I have tried to tell our parents to stay at home unless they have a doctors appointment or something like that. We make sure they have something to eat. We take turns visiting them. We don’t want to bring anything into the house and make them sick. We make sure we call before we go. They will call if they need something from Wal-Mart or Piggly Wiggly.

Question:

What does your daily routine look like right now?

Answer:

I’m in a t-shirt and shorts right now. I’m about to start on my school work on my laptop. I’ll start emailing teachers and students here shortly. I’ve got some Special Ed stuff that’s due here next week. At least i can do it from home at my own pace, I just have to get up, shower, brush my teeth, watch a little TV, get woke up and get started.

Question:

Have you started to work out or cook? If you did those already how have you continued to do those activities?

Answer:

I’ve been cooking a little bit more. I’ve been mixing it up though with the restaurants and the curb side service though. I’ve been cooking more than I normally do. This time of year I’m used to playing games where I would leave the field and grab me a bite to eat and take it to the house. I’m not a bad cook when I want to be though. I just hope I don’t gain too much weight. I might have to start walking and running to get myself back into shape if we do get back into school and start playing ball.

Question:

What’s a go to meal you cook for yourself?

Answer:

I like to cook a good hamburger steak. Maybe a baked potato or do some fries or tots in the oven and some form of a salad. That’s usually my go to if I have to cook something real quick.

Question:

What is the first thing or place you would like to go or do when this quarantine is over?

Answer:

I want to go get together with my ball team and start practicing again if we get a chance to play. In town I’ll go to the Mexican restaurant and get me a good meal. I’m eager to get back with my boys to start practicing again.
