Pitcher And Outfielder; The Breakdown

The two-way player is something we have seen for a long time at the high school level. In most any sport where it applies.

Football, you play offense and defense. Track and field you compete both on the track and in the field. Then comes baseball, where you pitch and play the field, or hit.

The two way player, especially in sports like football and baseball, began to die off for a long period of time over the last several decades. Especially at the college and professional ranks. Kids starting specializing earlier and more often in life.

However, recently, in baseball, it has begun a resurgence. Thanks to certain guys like Caden Grice at Clemson or Shohei Ohtani of the Angels making it both possible and cool to do again.

How do you do it though? Balance all of that action, and when do you develop certain characteristics and find you can and want to do both?

Preston Pionke of White County High does it all. So we asked the warrior, the how, they why, and the when of it all.
