Monday saw multiple standout performances around the Upper Cumberland, in both baseball and tennis alike.
Here are some of the best from Monday’s action:
Grayson Smith – Jackson County
Smith was lights out in the Blue Devils’ 13-0 win over Clarkrange, as he allowed only a handful of base-runners over the five innings of play.
As the score indicates, he finished with a complete-game shutout to give the Blue Devils their first win of the season.
Nic Smith – York Institute
Smith was as dominant as ever in York’s win over Macon County on Monday, as he pitched four shutout innings with 10 strikeouts and a single walk.
The junior southpaw also stroked a double at the plate and scored one of the Dragons’ four runs.
DeKalb County Boys Tennis
The entire DeKalb County Boys Tennis Team is worth mentioning because of their 9-0 win over Livingston Academy on Monday.
After taking down White County last week 7-2, the team put together a perfect outing that included them winning the doubles point by scores of 8-0 and 8-1 in their two matches.
Tic Christian – Upperman
Christian led the way in a 14-2 Bees win over Livingston Academy, as he finished with a four-hit game at the plate.
This included two doubles, and he also drove in four of Upperman’s runs. On the mound, Christian closed the game with three innings of one-run ball and four strikeouts.
Eli Huddleston – Upperman
Huddleston joined Smith in the 10-strikeout club, as he punched out 10 Wildcats to limit them on the scoreboard.
His final line was four innings of one-run ball, with only a single walk and five hits scattered amongst the strikeouts.
Cole Hammock – Livingston Academy
Hammock was one of LA’s few bright spots, as he finished with two hits and an RBI at the dish.
Tyler Fulghum – York Institute
Fulgham went yard in the Dragons’ 4-2 win over Macon, part of a three-run fifth inning for York.
This gave the visitors a 4-0 lead and control of the game.
