Lady Tigers, Livingston Face Potential Tiebreaker For District Tournament Seeding

In the District 8AA standings, the top three teams are set and ready to begin their play in the district tournament.

As of this story, Macon County sits atop with a 13-o record, Upperman is right behind at 12-1 and York Institute is in third with an 8-5 district record.

The next three teams are where it begins to get complicated. The DeKalb County Lady Tigers and Livingston Academy Lady Cats are currently tied for fourth at 6-7, with Cannon County right behind them at 5-8. To make matters even more complex, Livingston and Cannon play each other tonight, while DeKalb plays at last-place Smith County.

Should the Lady Cats and Lady Tigers both win tonight, it would ultimately lead to a coin-flip to decide the tie-breaker and ultimately, a first-round bye in the district tournament.

You read that right. In a district where the margin between three teams is razor-thin, a flip of the coin could end up being the difference in whether or not someone makes a postseason run or goes home early.

Both teams are searching for consistency as well, meaning that bye could end up being huge. DeKalb has won four of its last six, but are on a two-game losing streak. Livingston is 4-6 in their last 10 games, and have alternated wins and losses in their last four.

If that all seems complex, that’s if they both win tonight. If Cannon defeats Livingston and DeKalb falls to Smith County, there will then be a three-way tie for fourth and other tiebreakers will be brought into play.

It’ll be an interesting night of hoops in the Upper Cumberland, and it all tips off at 6 P.M.
