Lady Cats Volleyball Prepare To Host Substate

The Livingston Lady Cats volleyball team are moving on to the Substate portion of the postseason after winning the Region Tournament on Tuesday night.

In their opening match, Livingston took on Signal Mountain. After winning the first set, Signal Mountain tied things up at 1-1.

That was the only set they would win however, as the Lady Cats took the following two sets to win by a final score of 3-1.

“They were a really good team,” Head Coach Christie Jenkins said. “I still don’t think we played our greatest, but we played well enough to win.”

After Red Bank defeated Stone Memorial, they faced Livingston in the Region Championship. The Lady Cats didn’t waste any time with this one, as they won by a final score of 3-0 to advance to earn the right to host Substate.

“I felt like we played good, but it wasn’t our finest,” Jenkins said. “Like I said, those teams are good. We played well enough to win.”

Jenkins stressed staying focused to her team, as well as making sure they were getting their serves down. While she feels like her team could still play better, Jenkins said she saw improvement as a whole in the two games.

“I feel like we continue to do better in each game, I see other improvements in other areas besides hitting,” Jenkins said. “I do see improvements each game from my kids. I pray that we always just play with confidence, because now we’re playing teams we haven’t seen.”

The road gets really tough here, and the rise in competition is about to go through the roof. With Livingston set to take on Hixson at home on Thursday, even the officials were telling Jenkins how important home-court advantage would be.

“The referee was like ‘You need to win this game,'” Jenkins said of what the officials told her. “Even the refs were saying this was the one we needed to win…I felt like we would have a better shot of making it to State if we played Hixson than if we played East Hamilton.”
