Golf: Rain Hampers Practice Round At State For Local Teams

Monterey, Jackson County, and Upperman golf teams and individuals, competing in the state tournament this Tuesday and Wednesday at Willowbrook Golf Club in Manchester, had their practice rounds cut short or cancelled Monday due to the much needed rain.

“They got teed off,” Upperman head coach Joey Jones said. “Now how much they get to play is a toss up.”

Uppermans five man boys team made up of Reece Anderson, Riley Battilla, Sam Greenwood, Cason Mayberry, and Willima Spillers along with individual girls golfer Juilann Johnson  are all making their second consecutive trip to the state tournament.

“We are not able to get in our practice round today,” Jackson County head coach Garry Flynn said. “Radar looks like it will rain in Manchester until late afternoon.”

Flynn has two juniors competing on the individual side of the boys competition, Alex Barlow and Mason Wade.

Monterey’s Hunter Grubbs also qualified for the state tournament in the individual girls competition. This will be Grubb’s forth appearance at state for the Wildcats.
