Girls Basketball Recap: Ferrell, Cantrell Lead DeKalb Co Over White House

DeKalb County 71, White House 48

The DeKalb County Lady Tigers opened their season with a dominant win over White House, powered by 22 points from Kadee Ferrell and five three-pointers from Megan Cantrell.

15 of Ferrell’s 22 came in the second half, as she took a more aggressive approach on offense. Freshman Ella VanVranken added 13 points in her high school debut.

The Lady Tigers’ next matchup will be on Saturday when they take on Pickett County.

White County 90, Tullahoma 57

The Warriorettes dominated at both ends of the floor in the first half, and it led to a 90-57 win over Tullahoma.

White County outscored Tullahoma 44-17 in the first half, and kept the pressure up in the second half. Gracie Dodgen led the way with 23 points on 7/8 shooting from three, while Nia Powers added 22 points of her own.

Mia Murray scored 10 points and dished five assists.

White County will be back in action on Nov. 24 when they travel to Coffee County.

Upperman 54, Westmoreland 39

The Upperman Lady Bees got an impressive showing from Senior Reagan Hurst in their 54-39 win over Westmoreland.

Hurst put up a full stat-line of 27 points, four assists, four rebounds and four steals in the victory. Brooklyn Crouch added 12 points and Torie Brooks scored seven.

Upperman’s next contest will be on Nov. 21 when they take part in the Next Level Hoops Classic in Nashville.

York Institute 46, Cumberland County 33

The Dragonettes held a 27-22 lead at the end of the third quarter, and their offense got on track in the fourth quarter to lead them to a 46-33 win over Cumberland County.

York outscored the hosts 19-11 in the final frame to take home the victory. Haylee Johnson led all scorers with 15 points, while Ellie Leffew scored eight points.

Jalynn Baldwin led the Lady Jets with nine points, and Emery Baragona and Abby Houston each scored eight points.

York will take on Cookeville on Nov. 24 for their next game, while Cumberland County will play the Lady Cavs on Saturday.

Cookeville 62, Stewarts Creek 42

Senior Liv Shipman led the way for the Lady Cavs with 17 points in their 62-42 win over Stewart’s Creek.

Cassie Gallagher scored 11 points of her own and KK Graves added 10 points.

Emma Webb and Bailey Gillies each scored eight points.

The Lady Cavs will be back in action on Nov. 21 when they play Cumberland County and Clarkrange at Clarkrange’s Hall of Fame playday.

Macon County 59, Clarkrange 46

The Lady Buffaloes led by seven at the end of the first quarter, but offensive struggles in the middle frames led to a 59-46 defeat at  the hands of Macon County.

Kassie Monday led the way for the visitors with 20 points, while Lexi Pierce scored nine points. Macon’s Jalynn Gregory led all scorers with 32 points on the strength of six three-pointers.

After taking an 18-11 lead at the end of the first, Clarkrange hit a wall on offense and were outscored in the second and third quarters by a 31-14 margin.

The Lady Buffaloes will look to bounce back on Nov. 21 when they take on Cookeville.

Pickett County 81, First Baptist Academy 18
