Friday Night Lights Football Recap

White County 41, Cannon County 21 

On Monday, White County prepared for their bye week with the task to replace dynamic quarterback Malaki Dowell.

By Wednesday the Warriors picked up a game against Cannon County, because Grundy County had to cancel due to Covid19, and the Owen Adams era for White County was officially underway.

Cannon County jumped out early with a 7-0 lead on the Warriors but couldn’t slow White County down after that. White County was able to win 41-21 over Cannon County

Hunter Pope lead the way with 2 touchdowns on the ground and Owen Adams had 2 touchdowns through the air. Cannon County got another good drive together late third quarter to make it 35-14. On the ensuing kickoff Nate Mullins returned it to the house for a touchdown..

White County (3-3) will take on Livingston Academy next week, in Sparta.

Clay County 1, Pickett County 0

Pickett County had to forfeit their game against Clay County due to a positive Covid-19 test within their team. Clay County will be awarded a 1-0 region victory.

Clay County (5-2, 2-1) will host White County next Friday night in Celina. Pickett County’s (0-6, 0-3) currently scheduled to take host Jackson County in Byrdstown.

Upperman 26, York Institute 21 

Upperman scored the lone points of the second half on a 59-yard touchdown pass from Thomas Ensor to Daniel Metzgar to take down York 26-21.

The Bees trailed 21-20 before the Ensor to Metzgar connection. Upperman’s passing attack had their game of the year to this point in the season.

Ensor completed nine of his 17 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Ty Dutchess ran the ball 23 times for 119 yards and one score as well.

Marc Mitchell hauled in an 18-yard touchdown pass from Miles Leffew to start the scoring off for the Dragons and the game halfway through the first quarter. Ben Copper added two second quarter rushing touchdowns for York as well.

Leffew finished the game seven of 15 for 120-yards with two interceptions and a score. Cooper finished the night with 67-yards on 15 carries. Caden Stover added 42-yards on 14 carries for the Dragons.

Next week Upperman (5-2, 3-0) will be on their bye week.  The Bees will travel to region opponent Grundy County on October 16th. York (1-5, 1-2) travels to first year school Green Hill.

Monterey 31, Jo Byrns 0

The Monterey Wildcats dominated from start to finish in their 31-0 victory, Friday night in Cedar Hill. Defensively the Wildcats limited Jo Byrns to 105 total yards of offense on the night.

The stingy Monterey defense also recorded two interceptions on the night and forced a safety as well off of a blocked punt. Caden Jones returned the free kick, after the safety, 65-yards to the endzone.

Mason Bowman continues to show up each and every week for the Wildcats with 122-yards rushing on 20 carries.

The Wildcats step back out of region play next week in a battle of undefeated teams. Monterey (5-0, 3-0) will host Bledsoe County (6-0, 2-0).

Cascade 13, Jackson County 0

The Jackson County Blue Devils defense only gave up one touchdown in their 13-0 loss to Cascade on the road.

Cascade got on the board in the first quarter with a 35-yard field goal. Cascade would tack on a touchdown in the second quarter to take a 10-0 lead into halftime.

Cascade finished the scoring with a 44-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. Jackson County senior quarterback Eli Burris finished the night 11-22 for 111-yards and one interception.

Justin Davis, Wid Robbins, and Jacob Calvin each caught three passes each. Davis racked up 44-yards, Calvin had 29-yards and Robbins finished with 27-yards.

Jackson County (4-3, 1-2) is scheduled to play Pickett County in Byrdstown. Pickett County’s game against Clay County this week was cancelled due to Covid19.

Warren County 24, Cookeville 0 

The Pioneers shutout Cookeville 24-0, and Stockton Owen couldn’t get anything going as he had 2 fumbles and one INT.

The Pioneer offense didn’t change anything up offensively, running it up and down the field with 340 yards total.

CJ Taylor led the way with 170 yards, and right behind him was Ryland Holder with 97 yards, 26 of which came on touchdown carry where Holder just dragged Cavs with him across the goal line.

Warren County gets a week off and will face Coffee Co in Manchester in 2 weeks.

DeKalb County 38, Livingston Academy 14 

Axel Aldino accounted for five total touchdowns in DeKalb County’s 38-14 win over Livingston Academy on Friday.

He was dominant both on the ground and through the air in the first half, as he threw for 217 yards and a touchdown and ran for two scores as well. Aldino added two more touchdowns in the second half to help seal the win for the Tigers.

Receiver Isaac Knowles put together one of his best games of the year, as he recorded seven catches for 164 yards and a touchdown.

DeKalb’s defense held the Wildcats without a score until the 7:15 mark of the fourth quarter, as the Tiger offense reeled off 38 unanswered points to start the game.

The Tigers (4-3, 2-0) will play at Smith County next week, while LA (5-2, 2-1) will take on White County.
