Blue Devil Defense Dominates In Win Over York

The Jackson County Blue Devil defense forced six turnovers from the York Institute Dragons on Friday in an 8-0 victory.

The lone score in the game came at the 6:29 mark of the second quarter when Jackson County senior Eli Burris found Justin Davis in the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown.

The real trouble for the Dragons in the game came in the form of holding on to the ball. The rain didn’t help, but the Dragons fumbled the ball away on five of their seven possessions in the second half. They didn’t find success on their other two drives as well, as they punted the ball away and turned the ball over on downs once.

For the game, Burris led the way through the air with 115 yards on 14-25 passing with a touchdown and an interception.

On the ground, the Dragons were led by Zack Gibson’s 169 yards on 20 carries, though he did make the ultimate mistake in the game that salted the game away. With less than a minute on the clock, Gibson took off from the Jackson County 23 and just as he was about to cross the goal-line, he fumbled the ball into the end zone where it was recovered by the Blue Devils for a touchback.

When all was said and done, it was Jackson County who came away with an opening night victory by a final score of 8-0 over the Dragons.

Next week, Jackson County will host Sale Creek and York Institute will take on Oneida.
