A 23-year-old Hoboken man has been detained for three overnight purse snatching within one hour last month, Police Chief Steven Aguiar announced.
On November 7th, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Hoboken police responded to the 50 block of Garden Street, where a victim claimed that her purse had been stolen after she dropped it, according to the department.
On November 8th, at about 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of First and Hudson Streets, where a man approached a woman, stole her purse, and left before stealing a scooter from the Stevens Institute of Technology campus.
About ten minutes later, a third incident was reported on the 900 block of Garden Street, in which a man matching the previous descriptions stole another woman’s pocketbook and fled. There were no significant injuries recorded.
Det. Jesse Castellano and Police Officer Jason Montalvo headed the investigation, with additional detective bureau officials assisting. Batistasoriano was identified as the suspect.
On November 25th, he was found and detained in the 800 block of Hudson Street.
Batistasoriano was taken to Hoboken Police Headquarters and charged with two robberies and two thefts.
Following processing, he was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
“The hard work and persistence of our dedicated team led to a swift arrest and helped take a dangerous individual, targeting women late at night, off the streets. I am grateful for the teamwork that helped to close this case quickly, and safely,” added Aguiar.
The Hoboken Police Department’s Detective Bureau expressed gratitude to citizens and businesses who contributed surveillance footage, as well as the Union City Police Department, Jersey City Police Department, and Stevens Institute of Technology Police for their aid.
