A former pro football player has been detained for breaking into a commercial building in Jackson.
Quinton Culberson appeared in Jackson Municipal Court on Thursday and was ordered to attend Care Ministries’ rehabilitation program.
According to ESPN, Culberson spent three seasons as a linebacker for the St. Louis Rams and one season with the Carolina Panthers. He also played for Mississippi State University.
As a condition of bond, Judge Jeffrey Reynolds ordered Hinds County deputies to transfer Culberson, 40, to Care Ministries. He must also remain sober and stay at the facility until his release.
Court records show many criminal charges and a history of addiction.
In July 2017, Culberson was sentenced to five years in jail, four of which were suspended, and three years of supervised release on a DUI charge from 2016.
Judge Bill Gowan ordered Culberson’s release and enrollment in a mandated drug and alcohol treatment program.
Jackson Police arrested Culberson again in October 2022 on charges of auto burglary, business burglary, and grand larceny.
The former athlete received a $50,000 bond, and the matter was transferred to Hinds County Court, but no further action was taken.
Then, in June of this year, Culberson was arrested for allegedly breaking into a property at 2307 Ladde St.
Court records indicate that the defendant attempted to steal a leaf blower, chainsaw, batteries, and a charger.
He was granted a $50,000 bond in connection with the incident.
Another case was remanded to Culberson’s docket in October 2024 after the offender accepted to enroll in the Hinds County Drug Court Program.
Culberson was indicted by a grand jury in 2019 on numerous counts after reportedly forcing Quincy Culberson to drive him to a bank and withdraw $60.
He faced charges of violent assault, kidnapping, and strong-arm robbery. Judge Barry Ford decided to remand the matter.
