A woman charged with the abduction of two Louisiana girls, one of whom died in Mississippi, has been sentenced after pleading guilty in the case.
Victoria Cox appeared before Circuit Judge Winston Kidd at the Hinds County Courthouse on November 24, 2025. Cox pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and kidnapping. The sexual battery charge against her has been dismissed.
Kidd sentenced Cox to 40 years for second-degree murder and 25 years for kidnapping. She will have to complete her terms concurrently in the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).
Daniel Callihan, the guy charged in the case, just pleaded guilty in Mississippi. On September 29, 2025, Callihan pleaded guilty in Hinds County Court to capital murder, two counts of kidnapping, and two counts of sexual battery. He was sentenced to life in prison for capital murder and sexual battery, as well as 30 years each for two kidnappings.
On September 26, 2025, Callihan pleaded guilty in Tangipahoa Parish Court to first-degree murder in the murders of 35-year-old Callie Brunett, who was discovered dead inside her Loranger house by her father in 2024, and her daughter, Erin Brunett.
Tangipahoa Parish Coroner Rick Foster stated that Callie Brunett died from “multiple sharp force injuries.” He reported many stab wounds to her head, neck, chest, belly, and back. Foster also stated that Brunett had what appeared to be defensive wounds on her arms.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said Callie Brunett was discovered dead by her father on the floor of her bedroom inside her secured mobile home on North Cooper Road, after her parents reported her missing 24 hours earlier.
Investigators informed the Associated Press that Callihan and Callie Brunett had dated.
On June 13, 2024, Jackson police discovered Erin Brunett’s body in a rural location off Boozier Drive. Her sister, Jalie Brunett, was brought to a Jackson hospital for treatment before being released. Erin Brunett died as a result of suffocation, according to the Hinds County coroner.
Callihan and Cox were apprehended in Jackson. Callihan was extradited back to Louisiana. Callihan confessed on camera while being transported.
Callihan received two further consecutive life sentences after being sentenced in federal court on November 19, 2025.
