Woman Charged After 76-Year-Old Michigan Woman Found Dead in Driveway

A 31-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the death of a 76-year-old St. Clair Shores woman who was found in a driveway earlier this month. According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Stephanie Holt was arraigned on charges of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death and felony – commission with a motor vehicle.

Holt received a $100,000 cash/surety bond (10%). If she is released, she must wear a GPS tether, stay away from the scene of the incident, and have no contact with the victim’s family.

The incident occurred on November 1, when St. Clair Shores police were called to the 21000 block of Francis Street. Officers found the victim, identified as 76-year-old Mary Hulswitt, lying at the end of her driveway with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Investigators say Holt allegedly hit Hulswitt while backing out of her driveway and then left the scene. Police arrested Holt shortly after the incident.

“Fleeing from an accident, particularly one that results in serious injury or death, is illegal. When an accident occurs, the law requires that individuals stop and immediately contact emergency services,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido in a statement.

Holt is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause conference on November 14 and a preliminary exam on November 25.
