Woman Arrested After Trying to Take Child at Miami International Airport, Deputies Say

A 23-year-old woman was arrested at Miami International Airport on Tuesday morning after authorities say she took a 4-year-old boy from his mother and refused to return him.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the boy and his mother were standing in line at a check-in counter when Alvina Agba approached. Investigators said Agba offered to help calm the crying child, and the mother allowed her to hold him.

Instead of handing the boy back, Agba walked away with him.

“No, this is my child”

The arrest report states the boy’s mother followed Agba, who sat on the floor with the child. When the mother demanded her son back, Agba allegedly tightened her grip and told her, “No, this is my child.”

When the mother tried to take him, police said Agba pushed her away and clutched the child’s legs.

Bystander steps in

Witness Naylet Montano told CBS News Miami she rushed over when she saw what was happening.

“I noticed a woman on the floor, strongly gripping the little boy,” Montano said. “In that moment, I realized the boy was in danger. I grabbed him and ran.”

Agba allegedly chased Montano, trying to get the boy back, but three men stepped in to block her. Montano hid behind a counter with the child until police arrived.

Taken into custody

Deputies said Agba fled but was found minutes later at Checkpoint 5. She was taken into custody without incident.

During questioning, Agba reportedly claimed she was only trying to soothe the boy and believed a wall with a rainbow would calm him. She later told investigators she acted because “God told her to do it.”

Agba has been charged with battery and interference of custody.
