A teacher at Lake Shipp Elementary School was arrested Wednesday after a Polk County Sheriff’s Office investigation determined she falsely reported that a colleague intentionally bumped into her.
Juanita McCoy, 45, filed the complaint on October 19, alleging that fellow teacher Latonya Miller “shoulder-checked” her. During the investigation, McCoy refused to cooperate further. Miller denied any contact, explaining that McCoy partially blocked a walkway, forcing her to maneuver around her.
Security footage confirmed Miller’s account, showing no physical contact occurred. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd emphasized the seriousness of making false accusations, noting it misuses law enforcement resources and undermines trust in school staff.
This is reportedly the second such accusation by McCoy against Miller; a similar incident in February 2020 concluded with no charges.
McCoy was arrested and charged with False Report of a Crime to Law Enforcement (M1) and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center.
