A Willowbrook man accused of attempting to sexually assault multiple women across three Chicago suburbs within a week will remain in jail following a court appearance Saturday.
Kwame Koranteng, 31, has been charged with one count of attempted criminal sexual assault, two counts of aggravated battery in a public place, two counts of aggravated battery to a person over 60, and one count of criminal sexual abuse.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, the first reported incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Nov. 7, when Downers Grove police responded to a call from a woman who said a man grabbed her from behind while she walked on Brookbank Road. The victim told officers Koranteng was parked in a Toyota Corolla, got out, ran past her, then doubled back, grabbed her buttocks, and asked if “she can have sex” before driving away.
Three days later, on Nov. 10 around 2:44 p.m., Hinsdale police responded to a delayed sexual assault report. The victim said she was walking with a 6-month-old child on a path along 59th Street when someone grabbed her buttocks with both hands. She told officers that when she turned around, Koranteng reached down and touched her private area over her clothes. He fled when she screamed.
On Nov. 14, Darien police received another delayed report from a woman who said a man followed her into her apartment lobby around 10:15 p.m. the previous night. Police say Koranteng grabbed her buttocks before leaving the vestibule.
Later that same day, officers conducting surveillance on Koranteng in the 7300 block of Fairmount Avenue in Downers Grove witnessed another alleged attack. Investigators say Koranteng approached a woman who was with her young grandchild and grabbed her buttocks when she bent down to pick the child up. He allegedly attempted to wrap his arms around her, but the woman pushed him away. Officers arrested him after he ran back to his vehicle.
Koranteng is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 8.
