Waxahachie Man Apprehended And Charged With Multiple Vehicle Burglaries In Desoto

The DeSoto Police Department recently arrested Maverick James Stephens, a 29-year-old Waxahachie resident, on suspicion of repeated vehicle burglaries. The incident occurred last Wednesday at 11:10 p.m., when officers responded to a burglary call in a local business parking lot on the North IH-35E Service Road. According to the DeSoto Police Department, the caller identified the suspect as a white male with facial tattoos who fled the scene, leaving behind an idling gray Nissan Altima.

DeSoto cops found a ski mask and a crowbar inside the vehicle. Stephens was discovered at the IH-35E overpass and apprehended quickly thanks to the vigilant cops. Following an investigation that included security video, Stephens was tied to four vehicle burglaries in the parking lot. Property reported as taken from the burglarized vehicles was recovered from the suspect. Maverick is charged with four counts of burglary of a motor vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor.

DeSoto Police Chief Costa applauded the Delta Shift crew for their quick and efficient response, which resulted in the suspect’s arrest without escalating the situation. The Chief was described in the DeSoto Police Department’s social media post as saying, “Excellent job by the citizen caller who remained calm, answered the dispatchers’ questions, and provided valuable information prior to police arriving.” The community’s role in ensuring safety and order by reporting suspicious activity was also emphasized.
