Waveland Man Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison For Possession Of Child Exploitation Material

A Waveland man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for possessing child exploitation materials, Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch stated on Monday.

Colby Isaiah Johnson was found guilty of one count of possession of child exploitation material following an investigation by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office that began with a Cyber tip. Investigators discovered over 1,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse material on Johnson’s devices.

On November 6, Hancock County Circuit Court Judge Christopher L. Schmidt ordered Johnson to spend his sentence day by day in the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ custody without the chance of release. Johnson, a convicted sex offender, had already been compelled to register as such.

“Our incredible team of investigators and prosecutors is committed to holding individuals who exploit children accountable for their crimes,” Fitch said. “If you suspect a child is being exploited or abused, please report it to my office. Together, we can make Mississippi a safer place for everyone. Your tip could save a life.”

Authorities encourage anyone with information on a kid being sexually exploited online to call 1-800-843-5678 or visit www.cybertipline.org. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children operates the hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and tips are forwarded to Mississippi’s Attorney General’s Office, which oversees the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
