On September 20, 2025, Taara Aneesa Savage-El, 36, of Washington, D.C., was arrested in California and Maryland and charged with two instances of second-degree assault, one of which involved a minor victim.
That night, Maryland State Police responded to a suspected assault at the Holiday Inn & Suites. Upon arrival, officers contacted the hotel management, who guided them to their room. According to court filings, cops approached the room without hearing any signs of an assault in progress. The officers knocked on the door, and Savage-El replied. Two other people were present.
According to court documents, a male victim reported to officers that he had just returned to the room and was informed by a juvenile victim that Savage-El had reportedly yanked the youngster’s hair, knocking them to the ground and causing their head to impact the wooden bed frame. When the male victim confronted Savage-El about the alleged assault, she apparently became enraged and attacked him. The male victim reportedly had abrasions on the right side of his face that were actively bleeding, as well as a slight bruise on his right arm.
Officers smelled alcohol on Savage-El’s breath and noticed slurred speech when they approached her, according to court filings. Savage-El reportedly told officers that the male victim had strangled her but did not provide any other information. According to court records, upon further questioning, she acknowledged yanking the juvenile’s hair and knocking him down.
Court documents state that the male victim declined to file charges against Savage-El despite suffering physical harm from the alleged assault.
Savage-El was arrested and taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center. Second-degree assault is a felony in Maryland that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine. Savage-El’s trial is set for October 23, 2025, at 9 a.m.
