U.S. Naval Academy on Lockdown After Reported Threats

The U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland went on lockdown Thursday after officials reported threats made against the military school.

Lt. Naweed Lemar, spokesperson for the base that hosts the academy, confirmed in a statement that the academy is working with local law enforcement to investigate.

“The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution,” Lemar said. “This is a developing situation and we will provide updates as they become available.”

Police Presence at Bancroft Hall

Police gathered near Bancroft Hall, the academy’s massive dormitory that houses midshipmen. With more than 1,600 rooms, the building is recognized as the largest single college dormitory in the world, according to the academy’s website.
