Two women accused of running insurance fraud scheme from Doral clinic

Two women are facing felony charges after authorities say they ran an insurance fraud operation out of a Doral medical clinic.

According to police, Valentina Villa Del Gordo and Sonia Villa Mizarvera, employees at Calama Accident Care Center, submitted false insurance claims tied to a staged car crash in May. Investigators said the women billed for physical therapy and medical treatments that were never provided, using blank and post-dated forms signed by patients.

Both women have been charged with racketeering, filing false insurance claims, organized fraud, and grand theft. A third woman was initially charged but later released on her own recognizance.

Experts say such schemes are common in Florida.

“People open practices thinking they can get away with this kind of fraud, but eventually they get caught,” said Jose Beaumont, an insurance agent with Miami Insurance Brokers. He added that fraudsters often exaggerate injuries, inflating the damages billed to insurers.

But the costs aren’t limited to insurance companies.

“This causes the entire state to have higher premiums because insurers pass those losses on to consumers,” Beaumont explained.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
