Two people were killed and another was hospitalized after a solo-vehicle rollover crash early Thursday morning in Delano, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Authorities said the crash occurred around 12:28 a.m. on October 16 along Woollomes Avenue, west of Wallace Road. A preliminary investigation found that a 21-year-old man driving a 2017 black Acura ILX was heading east at an undetermined high rate of speed when the car veered off the road.
The Acura struck several large metal poles and a wooden power pole on the north shoulder, causing major damage to the vehicle.
CHP reported that the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
A front-seat passenger, identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as 19-year-old Andru Luque Felix of Delano, also suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
A 19-year-old woman seated in the back was taken to Kern Medical with unspecified injuries.
Both directions of Woollomes Avenue were closed for about three hours while crews investigated and cleared the scene. CHP said it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
