Tulare man tased, arrested after Highway 99 chase; police seize 11 pounds of marijuana, $25K cash

A Tulare man is behind bars after a chaotic pursuit in McFarland that ended with him being tased on Highway 99, police said.

Officers found 23-year-old Giovanni Capozzi passed out in a vehicle at a Velox gas station on West Perkins Avenue around 7:41 a.m. Wednesday. When officers woke him, Capozzi sped away, leading to a chase that ended when he flipped his car on the Perkins Avenue northbound onramp.

Capozzi then ran across the busy highway twice, hiding in brush before officers finally caught up with him. He resisted arrest until police deployed a Taser.

A search of his vehicle uncovered about 11 pounds of marijuana packaged for sale and $25,000 in cash. Investigators also learned Capozzi had multiple felony warrants across California and one in Nashville, Tennessee, for similar offenses.

He faces charges including marijuana possession for sales, transportation, reckless evading, and resisting arrest. Police said he will be booked into the Lerdo Justice Facility after a medical evaluation.
