Tucson police have detained a woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred earlier this month, killing a 25-year-old pedestrian.
The driver was recognized by investigators as Jazmin Montano-Granados, 27. Police claimed she met with officers on August 27 and was arrested. She was charged with failure to remain at the scene of an accident and is being held at the Pima County Jail.
The collision occurred around 2 a.m. on August 10 near East 22nd Street and South Park Avenue. According to officers, an SUV traveling westbound struck Izaah Josiah Ahley as he crossed 22nd Street outside a marked crosswalk. Ahley was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and subsequently died.
Police stated the SUV fled the scene but was later discovered vacant. According to detectives, Ahley’s effort to cross outside the crosswalk was a major contributing factor in the incident, but the investigation is focused on the hit-and-run.
