Trump files $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times

President Donald Trump has filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times and four of its journalists, according to court documents filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Florida.

The lawsuit cites several articles and a book written by two of the paper’s journalists and published ahead of the 2024 election, claiming they reflect “a decades-long pattern by the New York Times of intentional and malicious defamation against President Trump.”

“Defendants published such statements negligently, with knowledge of the falsity of the statements, and/or with reckless disregard of their truth or falsity,” the lawsuit states.

The New York Times did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday morning.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused the paper of lying about him and defaming him, calling it “a virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the Radical Left Democrat Party.”

This isn’t Trump’s first legal battle with the media. In July, he filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal and media mogul Rupert Murdoch after the outlet reported on his ties to financier Jeffrey Epstein.
