A truck driver was taken into custody during a human smuggling bust at a Love’s in San Antonio late last week.
The arrest occurred on September 12th at the Love’s Truck Stop on the 11300 block of the southbound Interstate 35 Frontage Road in San Antonio, Texas.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Gang Unit, K9 Unit, and Human Exploitation and Intelligence Unit were stationed at the truck stop when they discovered a possible human smuggling operation. Officers observed an apparent movement of passengers from a big truck to two SUVs.
Officers stopped two SUVs and found four undocumented migrants from San Luis Potosí, Mexico; Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico; and Guatemala. After the human smuggling bust, one of the migrants was sent to the hospital with a leg injury.
The migrants were taken to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. The truck driver, 64-year-old Ormond Andrea Tolbert, was also detained without incident. He is charged with four charges of smuggling and one count of engaging in organized criminal activities.
