A Thousand Oaks man is facing multiple charges after a domestic violence investigation led authorities to uncover his alleged connection to a string of Southern California art thefts.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Ryan Bloom, 31, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and possession of firearms and ammunition by a prohibited person.
Due to Bloom’s history with firearms, the Ventura County SWAT team executed a search warrant at his home on the 1300 block of Del Verde Court. Inside, investigators found multiple firearms, rounds of ammunition, and high-value paintings that had been reported stolen.
Authorities said at least one of the recovered paintings was linked to a San Bernardino property theft earlier this year. Officials believe Bloom may be connected to other art thefts across Southern California, and the Property Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate.
Bloom’s prior felony conviction prohibited him from owning weapons, according to a Nixle media release.
In addition to domestic violence and weapons charges, Bloom faces multiple felony assault counts, including assault with a firearm and sexual assault. He was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with bail set at $1 million and is expected to appear in court again on Friday.
Investigators are working to determine the full scope of Bloom’s alleged involvement in the art theft network.
